Exterior Design

2016 Nissan Maxima Exterior

Borrowing heavily from the concept sedan on which it’s based, the aesthetics of the 2016 Nissan Maxima are certainly a departure from the current Maxima model. Starting at the front of the vehicle, the 2016 Nissan Maxima redesign now features a large trapezoidal front grille flanked by boomerang-shaped headlights with angular accents. The A and B pillars are blacked out, which makes the roof of the next-gen Maxima appear as if it’s floating.

For added flair and function, the 2016 Maxima gives customers the choice between a premium or sport rear spoiler, optional 19-inch wheels, and an available panoramic sunroof. Arguably the boldest-looking vehicle in its class, the 2016 Nissan Maxima is sure to turn heads.

2016 Nissan Maxima Performance

A thrilling, powerful ride always comes standard from the 2016 Nissan Maxima. Engineers have made substantial updates to the 3.5L V6 engine, giving it greater performance output while also saving drivers money on fuel. Here are the 2016 Maxima specifications:

  • A standard 3.5L V6 powertrain that produces 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of peak torque.
  • This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission that comes with wide gear ratios and aggressive shift logic for smooth acceleration.
  • The new Maxima returns an estimated 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
  • There are Normal and Sport driving modes available for this upcoming model. The Sport driving mode changes engine behavior for a more athletic ride.

2016 Nissan Maxima Reviews

Public acclaim for the 2016 Nissan Maxima has been positive. Noted for its stylish new exterior, powerful engine, and well-appointed interior, here’s what the industry experts are saying:

  • Edmunds: “The new eighth-generation model gets a comprehensive restyle, starting with a new grille, headlights and front end. Sculpted sides flow into broad rear quarters that are vaguely Jaguar-esque, while the overall design trends toward four-door sedans that adopt fastback coupe-style roofs.”
  • The Car Connection: “Nissan has positioned the [Maxima] SR model as a serious performance car by deleting the moonroof on the grounds that it lessens rigidity. The SR features paddle shifters, and reduces high-frequency vibration from its sport-tuned suspension with a chassis damper like that used in the 370Z NISMO.”
  • Cars.com: “Nissan says it redesigned the interior of the Maxima to offer a driver-focused cockpit, to the point that the center stack of controls is angled 7 degrees toward the driver. Base, S, models feature a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster, dual USB ports, NissanConnect navigation, power driver and front passenger seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control with front and rear vents.”
