Community Spotlight: Humane Society

Happy Dog

The Humane Society for Hamilton County believes in a simple philosophy that all animals deserve a second chance at love. That is why, as a rescue shelter, they work hard to be a part of the solution and are constantly helping animals find loving homes.

In fact, the Humane Society for Hamilton County takes in over 3,000 animals each year and through the hard work of their team and volunteers, they are able to give each of these animals a better life!

Find the Purrfect Companion

Humane SocietyNothing beats those tail-waving morning snuggles, so if you are looking to find a furry friend, there is no better place to go than the local Humane Society for Hamilton County. Not only can you find your new best friend there, but you can also help in their mission to get each of these animals a loving forever home.

From puppy love to kittens you’ll be smitten with, you can explore the adoptable animals they have right on their website or by visiting their shelter. Their adoption process is super easy, too, so once you find the pet you’d like to bring home, they can get you started.

Once your application is approved and you’ve gone through all the necessary steps, you’ll be able to bring your newest family member home! Each of their animals has received their first round of vaccinations, as well as other preventative care, so you’ll have a happy and healthy pup or cat excited to begin their new life with you!

On March 31, 2021, the Humane Society for Hamilton County's dream came true. More than 150 dogs and cats at the (now old) Humane Society for Hamilton County in Noblesville, were loaded up one-by-one into vehicles of 50-plus volunteers.

Dogs will have areas to exercise…and cats will have indoor "catios" with ample sunlight and fresh air. An Education Center will allow us to expand our community outreach programs and safely offer youth volunteer opportunities. A Medical Center will give us a place to treat hundreds of injured and seriously ill animals who arrive each year.

Other Ways to Help

New LocationIf you aren’t quite ready to adopt a pet, that is okay! There are plenty of other ways you can get involved and help the animals at the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Donations go a long way to make sure each animal is properly nourished, gets the veterinary care they need, and of course, has plenty of fun toys to play with!

You can even get your whole company involved and organize a donation drive or volunteer day with your co-workers. You can also volunteer individually, because what’s better than giving back to your community while also getting to play with and be around dozens of friendly animals!

The Humane Society for Hamilton County also has a foster program, which lets you enjoy bringing the joy and fun of having a pet into your home without having to fully commit to adoption if you aren’t quite ready for that.

They have built a brighter future for not just Hamilton County’s animals, but also thousands of Hoosier animals at risk for euthanasia in other Indiana shelters. Their excitement of realizing a decade long dream was greatly impacted by COVID. However, they were able to persevere and the construction of their new facility continued.  COVID did have a significant impact on our fundraising events and many other initiatives in 2020 but they fought hard and got to the finish line. Loyal supporters like you helped us weather the storm.

As one of the only open admission, truly no-kill shelters in the country, you have our commitment to do whatever it takes to give every animal the chance to live, love, and be loved. But they are going to need your support more than ever before  as they transition into their new home while still navigating these unprecedented times. Whether it’s purchasing an engraved brick to be included in the Memorial Plaza of the new facility, or an automatic, monthly donation to help fund daily animal care, every dollar you donate saves lives.

Join One of Their Events

The Humane Society for Hamilton County also gets the community together from time to time for a fun way to help everyone get involved in their mission! That includes their annual Woofstock Survivor 5K and Dog Walk.

This event is put on each year to help raise funds to provide essential care for animals that need lifesaving medical care. Whether you are a runner or just joining for the day’s festivities, attending events like Woofstock are just another way you can help!
