Nissan Altima vs Hyundai Elantra

For drivers searching for an all-around versatile commuter car, find what you’re looking for in either the 2021 Nissan Altima or the 2021 Hyundai Elantra. When you’re shopping for a vehicle around Indianapolis, Lawrence, and Speedway, Indiana, you want one that gives you the most features. Andy Mohr Nissan did the research for you, so you know which tops the other.

Altima vs Elantra: Trim Levels

To start off examining the differences, the Nissan Altima offers six trims, including S, SV, SR, SL, SR VC-Turbo, and Platinum. For the Hyundai Elantra, it only has three trims, such as SE, SEL, and Limited. In this case, the Nissan could work for a variety of drivers, depending on what each one needs in their vehicle.

Altima vs Elantra: Performance

Variety comes into play again with the Altima. Two separate engines can be chosen, including the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, or the available 2.0L Variable Compression Turbo 4-cylinder engine. The first engine—with front-wheel drive (FWD)—generates 188 horsepower with 180 lb-ft of torque. If you go for the second engine mentioned, which is found in the VC-Turbo trim, it generates 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

A standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine appears in the Elantra. It generates 147 horsepower with 132 lb-ft of torque, which leaves you with less pep overall.

With the Nissan, you can decide between FWD or optional Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD). Only FWD can be found in the Hyundai, which puts a limit on what your car can handle.

Nissan Altima vs Hyundai Elantra: Space

If you’re looking for extended front legroom, the Nissan has you covered with 43.8 inches. The Hyundai offers slightly less front legroom with 42.3 inches. Major differences appear when you compare the hip room and shoulder room in both. Let’s look at the chart:

Dimensions

Nissan Altima

Hyundai Elantra

Hip Room Front

54.7 inches

53.4 inches

Hip Room Rear

54.5 inches

50.5 inches

Shoulder Room Front

58.2 inches

56.5 inches

Shoulder Room Rear

57.1 inches

55.6 inches

So, there’s some more space in the Altima cabin than in the Elantra. You can count on a larger cargo capacity in the Altima, too, with 15.4 cubic feet, while the Elantra provides 14.2 cubic feet.

On a chilly night, your fingers can feel extra toasty with the optional heated steering wheel in the Nissan. The Hyundai does not offer this amenity. You receive greater adjustability for the driver’s seat, too, with an 8-way power-adjustable one in the Altima and a 6-way adjustable seat in the Elantra.

Altima vs Elantra: Technology

Both vehicles offer a lot of similar technology features, like the available Bose Premium Audio System that surrounds your vehicle with music. The difference is that the Nissan carries nine speakers, while the Hyundai only features eight.

Nissan Altima vs Hyundai Elantra: Safety

Nissan Altima Safety

Neither the Nissan nor the Hyundai limits you on safety gear in your car. Multiple, comparable, and standard safeguards through Nissan Safety Shield® 360 or Hyundai SmartSense protect you on all sides.

The Nissan adds an upgrade, though, like the available Intelligent Around View® Monitor. You can use the Hyundai rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, but it doesn’t show you a 360-degree view like the Nissan.
