INTELLIGENT DRIVER ALERTNESS
The Nissan LEAF and the Toyota Prius tackle efficiency differently. As you’ll learn about below, the LEAF is an electric model while the Prius is a hybrid. Despite this difference, both models will keep you on the road longer without stopping to refuel or recharge. Which one offers more power overall, though?
The biggest difference between the LEAF and the Prius is that the Prius is a hybrid while the LEAF is a fully electric vehicle. This means that the Toyota still requires gasoline to move, whereas the Nissan runs off electric charge.
Due to this efficiency difference, the LEAF is able to introduce an e-Pedal to its cabin! This feature lets you drive your Nissan with just one pedal! Pressing down on it, you’ll experience an instant rush of acceleration. When you ease off the pedal, your vehicle will slow down and use regenerative braking to save energy. When necessary, you can still use the brake pedal provided!
What powers these efficient models? Let’s start first with the Prius. This model combines a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor to produce 150 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. With the Toyota, you'll still need to stop at the pump every now and then.
The LEAF offers two fully electric motors, so you'll never need to stop at the pump—simply recharge at home! The 110 kW AC synchronous electric motor produces 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque while the more powerful 160 kW electric motor boasts 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.
This means that you’ll have exactly zero emissions, and you'll also have more power than the Prius.
The LEAF and the Prius are masters of comfort and convenience. Both models’ cabins are optimized to put all touchable features within reach and to deliver an unforgettable drive.
You're going to be spending a lot of time in your car between commutes and grocery runs, so it should be a comfortable place. Both the LEAF and the Prius have available 8-way power adjustable driver's seats and adjustable passenger seats too! That way, you and your copilot can be comfortable as you debate along with the morning talk radio.
When your journey continues after nightfall, both models will keep you warm and comfortable on the drive home with available heated front seats and steering wheel.
Both have an 8-inch touchscreen display and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster that put your information in stunning quality. Some of that information includes turn-by-turn directions from their available navigation systems!
Speaking of which, available Nissan Door-to-Door navigation offers unique functionality. You can plot your route from home and then share those directions from your phone to the LEAF. Once you arrive at your destination, you can keep following the directions on your phone to the front door!
As you conduct research on your car-buying journey, taking safety into account is important. After all, roads are unpredictable, and you’ll want to be driving a vehicle that makes your protection a top priority. Which model goes above and beyond to help keep you safe?
Both the LEAF and the Prius come with comprehensive, brand-specific safety suites: Nissan Safety Shield® 360 and Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0. Each suite comes with standard features, such as:
- Intelligent Lane Intervention
- High Beam Assist
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- Intelligent Trace Control
- Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
Both models allow you to have eyes in the back of your head, too, thanks to their Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention and Rear Cross Traffic Alert features.
Only the 2023 LEAF offers available Intelligent Driver Alertness. This feature analyzes how you're driving and will give you an audio cue when it senses you might be fatigued or distracted. This feature looks out for your well-being, so you can continue on your journey safely.
Unfortunately, the Toyota Prius goes without a similar feature.
When you're ready to experience the future of driving in a hybrid or an electric vehicle, either the 2023 LEAF or the Prius would be a great choice. However, with more power, safety, and convenience, the LEAF has some definite perks.
