Nissan Maxima Dashboard Lights Guide

Nissan Maxima

Occasionally, you'll be driving along in your Nissan Maxima when you notice a light on your dashboard. Our instinct is to think that something is wrong with the car, but that isn't always the truth. Your date night in the Lawrence, Speedway, or Indianapolis areas doesn't need to be cut short just because you see lights.

At Andy Mohr Nissan, we'll help you figure out what needs your immediate attention, what can wait for a visit to our service center, and what is just informing you about specific functions of your vehicle. Your lights usually give you some time when they warn you of a malfunction, so you'll have plenty of time to get your Maxima to our service center.

Your Lights and What They Mean

Your Maxima will have two different types of lights on the dashboard, as manufacturers have had to add indications that your driver-assist features are functioning properly. One of the types is an indication light and the other is a warning light. We'll walk you through both types, so you know what to look for.

ABS Light

When you first fire up your Maxima, you'll notice these three letters. They'll eventually go out, or they should. If they don't, it could indicate an issue with the antilock braking system. You should schedule a service appointment soon to ensure your brakes work properly.?

Tire Pressure Light

If you notice an exclamation point inside a circular shape, this means your tire pressure is low. Typically, this won't indicate a need for service if you're able to add air to your tires on your own. However, if you notice you're inflating one particular tire a lot, it could be a slow leak, so schedule an appointment with us.

Brake Light

The word BRAKE displayed on your dash could be concerning since it's both an indicator light and a warning light. First, ensure that your emergency brake is not engaged. If you disengage and the light goes out, you're good to go. If it doesn't, it could indicate a need for brake fluid. It wouldn't hurt to get your car in for a fluid check with our technicians.

Battery Light

If you see a small square with a plus and minus inside it, then you're looking at the battery warning light. This could indicate something is wrong with your charging system, so it's important to give our service techs a chance to make sure everything is working properly and you don't need a battery replacement.

Schedule Service

Mode Light

If your Maxima offers different driving modes, you may see the word SPORT on your dash. If so, it's simply letting you know that your driving mode is turned on.

High Beam Indicator

If you see a blue half circle with some lines coming out of it, this is nothing more than your high beam indicator, letting you know that you have engaged your ultra-bright lighting.

At our service department, our team of highly trained and experienced technicians can take a look at your vehicle and quickly determine what may be going on. The lights could have been triggered by a malfunctioning sensor or you may be experiencing a more serious problem. Either way, our service department is equipped to assist.

They'll diagnose the issue and then they'll speak with you to let you know what they've found during their examination. In the process of explaining, they'll give you the remedy to the problem and they'll likely quote you an estimate for your service.
