Nissan Maxima vs Toyota Camry

Nissan Maxima vs Toyota Camry

Small sedans make great choices for drivers in the Indianapolis, Lawrence, and Speedway, IN, areas. Even with their smaller sizes, these vehicles are able to offer exceptional power and comfort.

In fact, the 2022 Nissan Maxima and the 2022 Toyota Camry offer both in spades. The question is: Which sedan goes the extra mile?

The Andy Mohr Nissan team is here to help you find the answer with this 2022 Nissan Maxima vs. Toyota Camry comparison!

NISSAN MAXIMA VS TOYOTA CAMRY: PERFORMANCE SPECS

We all like a sense of power when behind the wheel. To put the pedal to the metal and really feel your sedan respond is exhilarating!

The Toyota Camry has impressed many with its capable engine. When equipped with the standard 2.5L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder, it generates 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

While this powertrain might be impressive, it can't compare to the standard powertrain in the 2022 Nissan Maxima. This brawnier sedan comes standard with a 3.5L V6 engine that generates 300 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque. Clearly, that's a lot of extra muscle.

The Maxima also features a standard Xtronic CVT® (continuously variable transmission). CVTs are known for being far quieter and smoother than typical automatics, like the 8-speed automatic transmission you'll find standard in the Toyota Camry.

Additionally, the CVT of the Maxima comes with the Drive Mode Selector, which makes it possible for you to customize your drive experience with the touch of a button.

2022 MAXIMA VS 2022 CAMRY: SAFETY STRUCTURES

Nissan Maxima SafetyThese days, most cars seem to rely heavily on technology to keep passengers safe in the event of a crash. The Maxima and Camry are not exempt from this trend.

You'll find some very helpful standard safety technologies in each. For example, Intelligent Forward Collision Warnings and Automatic Emergency Braking make an appearance in both, in one form or another.

Each sedan utilizes a traction control system, as well, to improve handling on rough or hazardous terrain. However, they do seem to differ in terms of sheer structural reinforcements.

The Toyota Camry comes built with fortifications such as crumple zones, side-impact door beams, and an energy absorbing collapsible steering column. However, these don't quite amount to the safety of the Zone Body construction found in the Maxima.

The Zone Body features high-strength steel side-door guard beams and crumple zones, as well as hood-buckling creases, an energy-absorbing steering column, and more. Overall, the Maxima just seems to have more structural protections in the event of collisions.

DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECH

Both vehicles come standard with a comprehensive driver-assistance system that will keep an extra eye out for you while you’re on the road. The Nissan Maxima comes with Nissan Safety Shield® 360, which includes tools like:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High Beam Assist
  • Blind Spot Warning

The Maxima also comes standard with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which works in tandem with the Blind Spot Warning feature to monitor those hard to view spots.

While the Camry comes with many features similar to those listed above, its Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert systems are only available as a part of an optional package.

Additionally, the 2022 Maxima comes standard with Intelligent Engine Brake, which helps to slow your vehicle down by decelerating from the transmission rather than the brakes. This feature isn’t found in the 2022 Camry, so braking might feel slightly harsher with this model.

MAXIMA VS CAMRY: INTERIOR DIMENSIONS AND COMFORT

Nissan Maxima Interior TechGetting on the road with a Nissan Maxima or Toyota Camry is sure to invite comfort into your daily drives. Both vehicles are designed to help you and your passengers relax, even when on a long commute. But the question is: Which vehicle comes with more features?

Even though they both come with seating for up to five passengers, the Maxima offers more space for those in the front row.

With 39.1 inches of headroom and 45 inches of legroom in the Maxima, passengers riding in the front row will have plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The Camry, however, only has 38.3 inches of head room and 42.1 inches of legroom in the front.

While you enjoy the space, both vehicles offer cooled—or ventilated—front seats to keep you cool in warmer weather. Though, when you drive through a winter snowstorm, the standard heated front seats of the Nissan Maxima are sure to ease your chattering teeth. Heated seats are an available feature in the Toyota Camry, but they don’t come standard.

Even though they both offer heated steering wheels, only the 2022 Nissan Maxima extends some warmth to your rear passengers. The Nissan sedan offers available heated rear seats on top of everything else.

NISSAN MAXIMA VS TOYOTA CAMRY: INTERIOR TECHNOLOGY

At first glance, the Maxima and the Camry really seem to be neck-and-neck in the infotainment technology department. Although, upon closer inspection, the Maxima pulls ahead.

For example, the Camry comes standard with a simple audio system comprised of a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and more.

The Maxima has a nice suite of its own as well. Along with many of the same features, this suite includes a larger 8-inch touchscreen display, Nissan Door to Door Navigation, and SiriusXM® Traffic and SiriusXM® Travel Link. You could also get your sedan equipped with the available HomeLink® Universal Transceiver.

These added technologies and conveniences help to round out the Maxima cabin, making it an altogether more robust package. Plus, the available Bose® Premium Audio System of the Maxima gives you a total of 11 speakers. The best you’ll find with the Premium Audio System in the Camry is just nine speakers.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SEDAN

The 2022 Nissan Maxima and the Toyota Camry both have a lot to offer drivers in the Indianapolis, Lawrence, and Speedway, Indiana, areas. However, the Maxima repeatedly seems to come out on top.
