The Process of an Oil Change

Oil Change at Andy Mohr Nissan An oil change is one of the simplest maintenance procedures you can have done on your car and as such it’s rather quick to complete. Your average oil change will likely take about 35 to 45 minutes to complete, not including any wait times before your car is serviced.

The process of completing an oil change begins by checking the oil levels using the dipstick. Once that’s complete, the service technician will then drain the oil into an oil pan by unscrewing the filter cap. Once the oil has been fully drained, a new oil filter is put in place, the filter cap is put back on, and your oil levels are refilled.

It’s good to come to someone who is knowledgeable about oil changes to ensure that there aren’t any mistakes made in the process. An experienced technician will be able to drain all of the oil and debris properly, while also finding the right oil that your engine is designed for.

How Often Should You Get Your Oil Changed?

Oil Change at Andy Mohr NissanGetting your oil changed is a very important part of maintaining your car, that’s why you should have this maintenance performed regularly. So, how often should you change your oil? In many cases, drivers should replace their oil every 7,000 miles while driving with conventional oil. If your car uses synthetic oil though, you may be able to expect your oil to last for up to 10,000 miles.

The important part to knowing when you should change your oil though is making sure you check your oil levels regularly. In general, it’s good to check your dipstick every month or after every 1,000 miles to ensure you’re on top of your car’s maintenance.

Finally, it’s always good to be aware of the signs that it’s time to change your oil. The earliest sign will likely be your oil pressure light turning on, after that, you may smell an oily smell within your cabin. If your engine starts to reach abnormal levels of heat or you hear a knocking sound from under your hood, make sure you change your oil as soon as possible.
