Nissan Sentra vs Ford Focus: Driving Experience

Each of these energetic sedans brings a unique driving experience to the table.

The 2018 Nissan Sentra has an Xtronic CVT® transmission that improves acceleration while also limiting the necessary fuel output, resulting in greater efficiency. Another neat feature found in this sedan is the available drive modes. There are three of these drive modes, and each one presents drivers with a specific style to match their needs. These modes are as follows:

  • Eco: Eco maximizes fuel economy by altering the behavior of the transmission and engine while also limiting the energy consumption of the air conditioning.
  • Normal: Normal is an ideal blend of efficiency and quick-response handling that performs well in daily travels.
  • Sport: Sport comes into play when you're attacking those scenic, winding back roads. This mode creates a more receptive throttle and also heightens the engine responsiveness.

Transitioning to the Ford Focus, you'll find multiple transmission options, ranging from the 5-speed manual to the 6-speed automatic. However, you won't find a drive mode option that customizes the performance of your car to match the demands of the road ahead.

Interior Dimensions & Space

Who said sedans can't be spacious? Both the Nissan Sentra and Ford Focus have enough room for passengers to rest comfortably. Plus, you can bring your cargo along for the ride, too.

The Sentra prioritizes space for passengers in the second row, which is evident given the 37.4 inches of legroom back there. The rear also has 53.9 inches of shoulder room, which really comes in handy when you're carpooling. Overall, the Nissan Sentra has 95.9 cubic feet of passenger volume. This robust number is complemented by 15.1 cubic feet of cargo room.

As we move to the Ford Focus, things get a little more cramped, as the rear seats offer just 33.2 inches of legroom. The rear shoulder room isn't much better, measuring in at only 52.6 inches. Altogether, the Focus is limited to 90 cubic feet of passenger volume and a meager 13.2 cubic feet of cargo room.

Advanced Safety Features

Safety is a high priority for the Nissan Sentra, as well as the Ford Focus.

The Nissan Sentra has available Automatic Emergency Braking, which will help your sedan decelerate if a front-facing collision seems likely. It also has Blind Spot Warning, which alerts drivers if there is a vehicle in their blind spot as they begin to switch lanes.

The 2018 Focus has the Blind Spot Information System but doesn't have a feature that can mirror the benefits of the Automatic Emergency Braking setup found in the 2018 Sentra.

Sentra vs Focus: Conclusion

When comparing characteristics such as performance, safety, and space, it's clear the 2018 Nissan Sentra provides drivers around Indianapolis, Lawrence, and Speedway with a more complete experience.
